É muito difícil acabar com rankings pouco rigorosos (leia-se rankings da treta) se há instituições, como o Técnico, que não se importam de lhes fazer publicidade gratuita, vide link supra ! 

Será que no Instituto Superior Técnico não sabem que um ranking de investigadores minimamente rigoroso tem de atender a três aspectos fundamentais:

​1​- Ser baseado na Scopus ou na Web of Science, para assim permitir a desambiguação de publicações (existem milhares de perfis “contaminados” no Scholar Google com publicações de outros autores) e evitar também o lixo “científico” de citações em publicações não revistas por pares, cujo número explodiu nos últimos anos, e que existem em abundância/excesso nessa plataforma, que é conhecida por aceitar tudo.

​2​- Ser capaz de remover o efeito da terrível praga das auto-citações, em que muitos cientistas se tornaram verdadeiros especialistas​ ​https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-019-02479-7

O tal ranking supra, a que o Técnico agora achou boa ideia fazer publicidade gratuita, consegue o espantoso milagre de não conseguir cumprir nenhuma das referidas condições. É o que se pode designar por um ranking de tripla treta.

Abaixo os três posts mais visualizados de sempre deste blogue, onde o primeiro lugar é ocupado por um post sobre um professor associado com agregação da Universidade de Lisboa, que foi condenado num processo disciplinar, o que mostra que os processos disciplinares na Academia Portuguesa suscitam um elevado interesse mediático. Algo que na verdade não constitui grande surpresa, pois há poucos anos atrás um catedrático da universidade Nova disse que na sua universidade, os professores tinham medo de se expressar, com receio de lhes ser levantado um processo disciplinar, o que parece indiciar um sentimento de terror:

Quem obviamente não parece viver com qualquer terror de processos disciplinares, são aqueles professores universitários que durante anos a fio assediaram estudantes com total impunidade ! Infelizmente porém parece que em pleno século XXI ainda há professoras, e ainda por cima logo de Direito, que não sabem muito bem o que é o assédio sexual, pois se soubessem não escreveriam como infelizmente hoje uma escreveu no DN, que também há assédio de alunos a professores. Pelos vistos, na FDUL, ainda ninguém fez a caridade de lhe explicar, de maneira que ela consiga perceber, que um aluno (ao contrário de um professor) não está investido numa situação de poder que lhe permita exercer coacção, poder esse que é um requisito básico do crime de assédio.

PS – Há 15 anos atrás, mais precisamente em 28 de Junho de 2007, enviei uma queixa à Inspecção Geral da Ciência e do Ensino Superior, em cuja parte final se podia ler o seguinte: “Contudo e se atendermos ao facto de situações bastante mais graves terem sido descritas em Relatório interno daquela Escola (cfr. Doc. 7) “..relacionamentos entre professores e alunas em troca de notas….”, sem que os mesmos tenham resultado em qualquer procedimento disciplinar ou no mínimo dos mínimo num processo de averiguações…“. A referida Inspecção nunca respondeu à minha queixa, pelo que quem sabe, se a imprensa, que só agora parece ter acordado para este problema, não faz o seu trabalho e questiona a mesma sobre as diligências que na altura efectuou ou não. O Director da Escola, onde eu então trabalhava, de seu nome Armando Lopes Ramalho (familiar do Ex-Presidente António Ramalho Eanes), não se manifestou oficialmente sobre a minha queixa, mas em Março de 2008, na reunião do Conselho Cientifico, onde foi analisada uma proposta para a renovação do meu contrato de trabalho, deixou bem visível o fogo do recalcamento que lhe consumia a “alma” e disse que não concordava com essa renovação, porque na sua opinião, eu teria insultado todos os professores daquela escola, por conta da queixa que nove meses antes tinha enviado à Inspecção Geral da Ciência e do Ensino Superior, onde dei crédito a denúncias constantes de um relatório interno! Sem surpresa, a referida proposta de renovação do meu contrato foi “chumbada“. Porém quanto aos alegados e (alegadamente inúmeros) insultados professores, nenhum deles, um único que fosse, admitiu o alegado insulto e procurou a devida reparação na justiça. Quem avançou para a justiça fui eu, com um pedido de indemnização por crime de difamação, contra o referido Director. É bem verdade, que o juiz a quem coube em sorte julgar a abertura da instrução da referida acção, entendeu não me dar razão, mas esse juiz, muito ironicamente, já tinha o destino traçado (nas estrelas) e acabaria ele próprio, expulso da magistratura por falsificar processos. Acresce que na altura e atento o inesperado desfecho do supracitado processo crime, ainda cogitei em avançar com um processo cível, que teria (segundo me disseram) muito mais hipóteses de sucesso porque dispensado de fazer prova da ocorrência de um crime, porém decidi não perder mais energias e custas judiciais com tal figura. E de facto o tempo acabou por dar-me razão, e também por acréscimo, uma satisfação muitíssimo maior, do que a sentença de qualquer processo judicial algum dia me poderia dar, pois o mesmo Armando Lopes Ramalho, é agora, pasme-se (muito provavelmente para grande desgosto e até vergonha do Ex-Presidente António Ramalho Eanes), deputado municipal, de um partido fundado por um génio dos negócios, que tinha uma paixão assolapada pelo figo-da-índia, mas que a muito benevolente justiça Portuguesa condenou por favorecimento da empresa do pai (algo que neste país passou sem graves consequências, que não a perda de mandato, mas que noutros países muito mais civilizados, jamais passaria sem uma estadia em estabelecimento prisional, como se comprova por exemplo pelo caso do Ex-Primeiro Ministro François Fillon, condenado de forma implacável por ter favorecido alguém da sua família, pena que um tribunal superior recentemente confirmou, e por conta da qual irá fazer companhia a violadores e pedófilos), o que significa que também neste país vale o conhecido aforismo Francês “Les beaux esprits se rencontrent“.

Continuing from the aforementioned article by three German Professors of Innovation Economics highlighted in the preceding post, the assertion that “Patents seem to have no clear effect on economic growth” comes as no major revelation. A recent Business Insider article aligns with this perspective, suggesting that European innovators would be better served by prioritizing value creation over the conventional emphasis on protecting intellectual property.

Nevertheless, it’s regrettable that Ian Mundell, the author of the article, overlooks the notorious case of the Theranos unicorn, valued at 10 billion dollars and adorned with over 100 patents. Notably, these patents were rooted in a void of substantiating evidence, contributing nothing in terms of value creation. This prompts a pertinent question: among the vast multitude of patents granted thus far, how many share the same dubious “quality” as those associated with Theranos?

Ps – In January of this year, a heated debate ignited in Australia over a decision by the Ministry of Education to veto funding for six research projects in the field of Humanities. The rationale behind this move was purportedly that these projects did not provide sufficient value for taxpayers’ money. In her book “Not For Profit: Why Democracy Needs the Humanities,” philosopher Martha Nussbaum argued that the Humanities play a crucial role in sustaining healthy democracies. Admittedly, skeptics might dismiss Nussbaum’s stance as merely advocating for her own academic domain. Setting cynicism aside, consider the hypothetical scenario of a scientific field that could actively contribute to preventing conflicts such as war. Given the colossal costs associated with addressing the aftermath of conflicts—take the reconstruction of Ukraine, for instance, projected to require hundreds of billions—such a field would undoubtedly hold immense economic value (not to mention that the IMF warned that this War will devastate the world economy). The challenge then arises: how do we accurately measure and quantify the economic value of that scientific field?

No post acessível no link acima, ficou claramente em falta um comentário, não sobre a relação entre a atracção física e o sistema imunitário, que foi mencionada num recente estudo científico, publicado nos Proceedings of the Royal Society: Biologic Sciences, mas sim sobre aquilo que é a explicação do perigoso (mas também conservador) psicólogo Jordan Peterson, famoso ex-professor na Universidade de Toronto, sobre algumas das descobertas que foram mencionadas no livro de dois neurocientistas dos EUA “A billion wicked thoughts: What the world’s largest experiment reveals about human desire” (livro esse que é vendido na FNAC com o título pouco rigoroso de “Milhões de pensamentos perversos”) e o fenómeno que o referido Jordan Peterson descreve como “The female hero myth“, que basicamente resume do seguinte modo: “There´s no fun in tamming who´s already tamed”

PS – A imprensa revela hoje que um professor da Universidade de Lisboa, preocupa-se tanto com o sucesso académico das suas alunas, que até vai ao extremo de sacrificar as suas sagradas horas de descanso, para explicar a matéria às suas alunas e isso mesmo sem a sua universidade lhe pagar horas extraordinárias: “o professor, de 45 anos, insistia em oferecer ajuda para explicar a matéria e fazia várias perguntas de foro pessoal. Todos os contactos eram feitos nunca antes das 20:00 e prolongavam-se pela noite fora, havendo ocasiões em que enviava mensagens já depois das 03:00 horas da madrugada” Infelizmente, as alunas que ele bondosamente quis ajudar não souberam reconhecer o seu altruísmo e pasme-se até se queixaram dele, deixando criar a injusta convicção que esse professor teria eventuais intenções perversas. Alunas ingratas !

I must confess that I was wrong, deeply wrong, when, back in 2018, I wrote that Russia, and not Turkey, was the country with better conditions to join the European Union. Of course, at the time I could never have imagined that just one year later I would have to admit that Turkey is a country capable of producing scientists of high ethical standards. Even worse, four years later I would witness Russia turning into a bloodthirsty state led by a pathological liar (as Lithuania’s prime minister aptly put it), for whom torture is an act of extreme affection, repeated rape an expression of deep love, slavery equals freedom, and war is peace, exactly as in Orwell’s 1984.

Taking this into account, and considering that corrupt Hungary is a de facto (though not de jure) enemy of the European Union, the clearest proof being that “Orc Bloodymir” Putin has just congratulated Viktor Orbán, and assuming that the European Union, like the Roman Empire, does not reward traitors (Roma proditoribus non praemia), why should we not replace Hungary with Turkey?

As for corrupt Hungary, it is free to form a new (diabolical) union with its barbaric Russian friends. Meanwhile, the European Union could finally pursue the recovery of the funds that Hungarian oligarchs, such as the billionaire Lőrinc Mészáros, have siphoned from European taxpayers.

Declaration of competing interests — I must confess that Turkey’s special relationship with members of the Felis silvestris catus gang played no role in my present admission of past mistakes. After all, well before 2018 I had already been held hostage by several fierce members of that very same gang.

However, Kenya rejects such a yearning from being pursued by force. We must complete our recovery from the embers of dead empires in a way that does not plunge us back into new forms of domination and oppression.

We rejected irredentism and expansionism on any basis, including racial, ethnic, religious or cultural factors. We reject it again today.

Kenya registers its strong concern and opposition to the recognition of Donetsk and Luhansk as independent states. We further strongly condemn the trend in the last few decades of powerful states, including members of this Security Council, breaching international law with little regard.

Multilateralism lies on its deathbed tonight. It has been assaulted today as it has been by other powerful states in the recent past.

We call on all members to rally behind the Secretary-General in asking him to rally us all to the standard that defends multilateralism. We also call on him to bring his good offices to bear to help the concerned parties resolve this situation by peaceful means.

Let me conclude, Mr. President, by reaffirming Kenya’s respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.”

Since oil and gas pipelines from Russia to Europe are the main funding sources of the Russian killing machine does that mean the Ukrainian army is entitled to start bombing them in order to try to stop the Russian invasion? Or, on the contrary, should Ukrainians value the comfort of Austrians much more than their own lives?

PS – How deeply hypocritical it is to see the European press “outraged” with the “mutilated bodies of murdered men, women, and children….rape and murder of young girls” just found in the Ukrainian city of Bucha if European countries do not accept to reduce their comfort (which even includes obnoxious highways without speed limits at the same time that The Economist just stated that lowering motorway speed limits by 10kph would be able to trim fuel use by 15%) thus keeping on funding the Russian criminal machine with almost 1 billion euros per day!

The Washington Post just published an interesting article about Mikhail Mizintsev, a notorious Russian coward who has a macabre record of destroying cities in Syria and who is now responsible for war crimes in Ukraine. 

The text below (concerning a different Russian Mikhail) was written by the former molecular cell researcher Leonid Schneider and helps to explain the madness of Russian “scientists”. “Mikhail Kovalchuk (brother of Putin’s moneyman, the oligarch Yuri Kovalchuk)…explained that solar panels and windmills were being deployed by Germany in Ukraine as a secret infrasound weapon against Russia” 

If Europe thinks it will stop the mad Russian butchers without severe pain it has another think coming. In fact, a cowardly (pleasure-seeking addict) civilization that comfortably watches the ongoing Ukrainian slaughter from afar  (wasting countless hours in philosophical discussions about a slap that took place in Hollywood) hardly deserves to exist, especially since their disgusting comfort (except for the countries that do not use Russian energy and therefore are not funding the Russian army) is now being paid for with the blood of Ukrainian children.

No, it’s not enough to sanction Russian oligarchs. No, it’s not enough to impose sanctions on Russian companies. No, it’s not enough to boycott Russian sportsmen during the next decades. No, it’s not enough to lower room temperature by 2 ºC as was recently suggested by the two naive Germans Braesemann & Schuler. 

Most likely it is necessary to reduce room temperature by 4 ºC or even 5 ºC, it is also badly necessary to reduce the speed limit on all European highways (a most needed measure that German Ministers hate so much), stop rewarding and celebrating environmental offenders like Hamilton, also to go back, once again, to remote work (because Putin and his butcher proxies are worse than Covid-19 or any other deadly virus) and if necessary even to go back to coal-based energy, at least until the Russian butchery is finally stopped.

This is, of course, very good news but unfortunately as was written before it’s not enough because even in a wonderland scenario of a 90% cut in fossil use the world would still require to be able to offset 1 billion tonnes of carbon a year.

Na parte final de um post publicado em 2021, mencionei vários casos de catedráticos, que muito embora tenham sido condenados em tribunal, por terem cometido crimes, ainda assim não foram expulsos da universidade pública onde exerciam funções, algo que jamais ocorreria em universidade estrangeiras, onde há catedráticos que foram despedidos por conta de assédio a alunos de doutoramento.

Pois bem, hoje o jornal Público dá conta de um incrivel caso, que diz respeito a uma catedrática da universidade do Porto, que é acusada em sede de processo disciplinar, de ter atacado com um frasco de ácido uma técnica de laboratório e um professor que sofreu cortes nos braços, tendo o bizarro acontecimento levado inclusive à chamada da PSP aquela universidade para tomar conta da ocorrência. https://www.publico.pt/2022/03/30/sociedade/noticia/professora-universidade-porto-acusada-atacar-colegas-garrafa-acido-2000621?ref=hp&cx=latest_news_a_v2–496639

Como se isso já não fosse suficientemente grave, o artigo vai ao ponto de informar que a referida catedrática costuma acusar funcionárias, que estão grávidas, de não quererem trabalhar e ainda de usar de uma linguagem depreciativa relativamente outros Colegas, linguagem essa que os funcionários públicos estão proibidos de usar nas suas funções profissionais, com recurso a expressões como “osga” ou “prostituta colombiana“.

Será que este gravissímo caso poderá levar à expulsão da referida catedrática da universidade do Porto, ou será que os factos relatados serão considerados menos graves do que aqueles que ditaram a expulsão, na mesma universidade, de um professor por causa de artigos sem credibilidade ou deste outro aqui, significando isso que a impunidade catedrática da academia Portuguesa vai prevalecer ?
