US Federal Projects will now contract only with companies that deliver “green” materials

“General Services Administration standards-GSA only will contract with companies whose total emissions are 20 percent lower than the national limits recommended by the New Buildings Institute, which outlines modern building codes…GSA now will require that its contractors provide at least two out of six environmentally preferable techniques the agency recommends when making and installing the asphalt, such as using bio-based binders and recycled materials” https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/government-sets-carbon-limits-on-concrete-for-federal-projects/

This is, of course, very good news but unfortunately as was written before it’s not enough because even in a wonderland scenario of a 90% cut in fossil use the world would still require to be able to offset 1 billion tonnes of carbon a year.

PS – Let´s also not forget that in what concerns cutting carbon dioxide emissions is important to bet on the cheapest solutions https://pacheco-torgal.blogspot.com/2021/03/the-economistwhats-cheapest-way-to-cut_8.html
