Depois de em 2018 ter sido publicada a primeira edição de um livro sobre a reciclagem de resíduos de plástico em betão, que recorde-se foi, a nível mundial, o primeiro livro dedicado aquela temática, que foi selecionado para indexação na conhecida base Scopus, sou por este meio a reproduzir abaixo o resumo do capítulo introdutório, que estou quase a terminar, para a segunda edição, que será publicada daqui a alguns meses:
Abstract: This chapter delves into various challenges linked to the paramount problem of plastic waste, which totals a staggering 400 million tons annually, with a shocking 11 million tons ending up in our oceans. It examines data related to plastic production and waste. The excessive hopes pinned on the plastic-digesting enzyme’s potential are discussed. In the European context, directives, recycling targets, and the worrying prospect of smuggling plastic waste are addressed. Emphasis is placed on the importance of incorporating recycled plastics into concrete solutions that could potentially help recycle almost 25 million tonnes of plastic waste per year. Additionally, a glimpse into the book’s organization and structure is also provided.
